WHAT'S ALARMING
Although carbon dioxide (CO2) occurs naturally in our atmosphere, levels have increased dramatically in the post-industrial era, from 227 parts per million (ppm) in 1750 to 405 ppm in 2017. Initially anthropogenic (human caused) emissions resulted from deforestation and changes in land use but by 1950, continuing into the present, the dominant source of these emissions is fossil fuels.
