WHAT'S inspirING

In 2019 sales of electric cars increased 40% over 2018, accounting for 2.6% of global car sales. Technological progress has also facilitated substantial electricifcaiton of trucks, buses and other vehicles.

In 2019, electric vehicles in operation globally avoided the consumption of almost 0.6 million barrels of oil products per day and the electricity generated to supply these vehicles emitted about half of what would have been required from an equivalent fleet of internal combustion engine vehicles. Net emission reductions from electric vehicles would be even greater if policies, such as those articulated in the Paris Agreement, were implemented, having the result of more rapid decarbonization of electricity generation.
